一 What it is
What Bazi Compatibility Means Here
Think of comparing two charts like comparing two fingerprints: you can place them side by side and note where the ridges run in similar directions, but the overlap itself does not tell you whether two people will get along. Bazi compatibility, in this calculator, is a bounded two-chart comparison. Each person’s Four Pillars are calculated separately first, then kept intact. Only after that do we record what is visibly present and what is hidden, before considering any branch relations.
To read a Bazi chart for comparison, you begin with each chart’s own Day Master, the visible stem in the Day column. That stem sets the Ten-God labels within its own chart. A label such as Direct Officer or Indirect Wealth is a visible or hidden match, not a statement about character or outcome. Likewise, a listed Branch relation across the two charts is a lookup label, not a compatibility score.
This topic cannot prove attraction, marriage, business success, duration, fate, conflict, health, wealth or career results. It does not assign a score or verdict. Raw five-element totals are not a strength judgment, and the Day Master counts in those totals while being excluded only from article weighted Ten-God totals. Unknown birth time means no invented Hour Pillar. Treat every label as vocabulary for observation, not as a prediction.
二 Where to find it in your chart
Where to Find the Day Master and Ten-God Labels
Open one result at a time. The Day Master is the visible stem in the Day column, the third pillar. In the example chart 乙丑 辛巳 甲寅 壬申, that stem is 甲, so the Day Master is Jia Wood. Every other visible stem is labelled relative to it: 乙 becomes Rob Wealth, 辛 becomes Direct Officer, and 壬 becomes Indirect Resource. A reader with a different Day Master receives different labels for the same stems.
Each branch also carries hidden stems, shown with their own Ten-God labels. Under 丑 you will see 己, 癸 and 辛, labelled Direct Wealth, Direct Resource and Direct Officer. Under 寅 the hidden stems 甲, 丙 and 戊 appear as Friend, Eating God and Indirect Wealth. These hidden labels sit beside the visible ones, so one pillar can show several layers at once.
If the birth time is unknown, the calculator produces no Hour Pillar, and no Hour stem or hidden stems should be invented. To see how the full chart is assembled, you can read a Bazi chart first. Branch relations such as Six Combinations and Six Clashes are separate lookup labels, not verdicts. When you are ready, calculate your chart.
| Position | Year | Month | Day | Hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stem | 乙 | 辛 | 甲 | 壬 |
| Branch | 丑 | 巳 | 寅 | 申 |
| Ten God | Rob Wealth | Direct Officer | Day Master | Indirect Resource |
| Hidden | 己, 癸, 辛 | 丙, 庚, 戊 | 甲, 丙, 戊 | 庚, 壬, 戊 |
三 How to read it
How to Compare Two Charts Step by Step
Start by calculating each chart on its own. Year and Month pillars follow China time, while Day and Hour pillars use true solar time; if the birth time is unknown, leave the Hour Pillar out rather than inventing one. Only after both Four Pillars stand complete should you place them side by side. This keeps each chart intact instead of blending the two into a single blurred reading.
Next, establish the Day Master in each chart: the visible stem in the Day column. That stem sets the Ten Gods labels used throughout its own chart, so the same element can carry different labels in Chart A and Chart B. Identify the relevant element relationship between the two Day Masters before comparing anything else, then note how each chart's own stems and branches respond to that relationship.
Then separate what is visible from what is hidden. Visible stems sit on the surface of a pillar; hidden stems are stored inside each branch and carry their own labels. Record both, because a visible Officer stem and a hidden Officer stem occupy different positions in the structure. When branch relations appear across the two charts, name them exactly as listed, such as Six Combinations, and treat the label as a lookup result rather than a compatibility score.
Finally, record positions. A label in the Year pillar, the Month pillar, the Day pillar or the Hour pillar describes a different location in the chart, and location matters when you later read a Bazi chart. Weighted totals follow this calculator's list-order convention: hidden stems are weighted 1.0, 0.5 and 0.3, and the visible Day Master counts in five-element totals but is excluded only from article weighted Ten-God totals. These totals are descriptive summaries, not a strength verdict and not a result forecast. A comparison is not a verdict.
| Observable label | Members or basis | Bounded reading |
|---|---|---|
| Chart A and Chart B | two separately calculated Four Pillars | keep each chart intact before comparison |
| Day Master | the visible stem in each Day column | sets Ten-God labels within that chart |
| Branch relation | exact listed branches across the comparison | a lookup label, not a compatibility score |
四 When the reading changes
Repeated labels across two charts
A label can appear in both charts without merging the people or the readings. In the first example, Direct Officer appears as the visible month stem 辛 and again among the hidden stems of 丑; in the second example, Direct Officer appears only among the hidden stems of 戌. The check is to list each occurrence with its chart, pillar, and visible or hidden status before comparing anything. Repetition means the same Ten-God vocabulary is present in two places, not that the label doubles in force or produces a shared outcome. It also does not tell you whether the two people will agree, attract, or endure.
Hidden-only versus visible occurrence
Visibility changes what you can point to, not what the chart guarantees. A visible stem sits in a pillar and receives its Ten-God label directly from that chart’s Day Master; a hidden stem sits inside a branch and receives its label through the same Day Master. In the first example, Seven Killings is hidden in 巳 and 申, while Indirect Resource is visible in the hour stem 壬 and also hidden in 申. The concrete check is to mark every hidden stem with its weight convention — 1.0, 0.5, or 0.3 by list order — and keep those weighted entries separate from visible stems. A hidden-only label is not weaker evidence of an event, and a visible label is not a promise. Both are lookup results inside one chart.
Positional differences within the Four Pillars
The same branch can carry different weight depending on where it sits. Compare Day Branch 寅 in the first chart with Year Branch 寅 in the second: both are 寅, but one occupies the Day position and the other the Year position. The check is to record the pillar name beside every branch before scanning across charts, because position is part of the chart’s structure, not a ranking of importance. A branch in the Day position and the same branch in the Year position are not interchangeable entries. Position also affects which hidden stems you list first, since the calculator’s list order sets the 1.0, 0.5, and 0.3 weights. None of this predicts compatibility, timing, or duration.
Coexistence with another relation or Ten-God category
A branch relation can sit alongside a Ten-God label without either one cancelling the other. Suppose a comparison shows a Six Clashes between one branch in Chart A and one branch in Chart B, while the same pillars also carry Indirect Wealth or Indirect Resource. The check is to write the relation label and the Ten-God label on separate lines, each tied to its exact branch and chart. Coexistence means both lookup results are present; it does not mean the relation overrides the Ten-God, or that the Ten-God softens the relation. Raw five-element totals and weighted Ten-God totals remain separate records, and neither is a strength verdict. Treat the comparison as a bounded list of labels, not a score or a forecast.

Relevant observation(s) — first chart kept as its own Four Pillars; Day Branch 寅.
Element totals — Wood 3.0; Fire 1.5; Earth 1.9; Metal 2.8; Water 2.0.
Weighted Ten-God totals (excluding only the visible Day Master) — Friend 1.0; Rob Wealth 1.0; Eating God 1.5; Indirect Wealth 0.9; Direct Wealth 1.0; Seven Killings 1.5; Direct Officer 1.3; Indirect Resource 1.5; Direct Resource 0.5.
Chart A: Reading One Chart Before Any Comparison
Chart A is built from four pillars: 乙丑 in the year, 辛巳 in the month, 甲寅 in the day, and 壬申 in the hour. Each pillar pairs a visible stem with a visible branch. The Day Master is the visible stem in the Day column, so Chart A’s Day Master is 甲. That single stem sets the Ten-God labels used throughout this chart.
Read the visible stems first. In the year, 乙 is Rob Wealth. In the month, 辛 is Direct Officer. In the day, 甲 is the Day Master itself. In the hour, 壬 is Indirect Resource. These labels describe relationships to 甲 within Chart A; they are interpretive vocabulary, not outcomes.
Next, record the branches and their hidden stems. 丑 hides 己, 癸, and 辛, labelled Direct Wealth, Direct Resource, and Direct Officer. 巳 hides 丙, 庚, and 戊, labelled Eating God, Seven Killings, and Indirect Wealth. 寅 hides 甲, 丙, and 戊, labelled Friend, Eating God, and Indirect Wealth. 申 hides 庚, 壬, and 戊, labelled Seven Killings, Indirect Resource, and Indirect Wealth.
The supplied five-element totals are Wood 3, Fire 1.5, Earth 1.9, Metal 2.8, and Water 2. The supplied Ten-God totals are Friend 1, Rob Wealth 1, Eating God 1.5, Hurting Officer 0, Indirect Wealth 0.9, Direct Wealth 1, Seven Killings 1.5, Direct Officer 1.3, Indirect Resource 1.5, and Direct Resource 0.5. These are raw totals, not a strength verdict.
To read a Bazi chart accurately, keep Chart A intact as its own Four Pillars. Its Day Branch is 寅. Only after this separate reading should you compare it with another chart.
| Position | Year | Month | Day | Hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stem | 丙 | 戊 | 甲 | 壬 |
| Branch | 寅 | 戌 | 午 | 申 |
| Ten God | Eating God | Indirect Wealth | Day Master | Indirect Resource |
| Hidden stems | 甲 Friend (1) 丙 Eating God (0.5) 戊 Indirect Wealth (0.3) |
戊 Indirect Wealth (1) 辛 Direct Officer (0.5) 丁 Hurting Officer (0.3) |
丁 Hurting Officer (1) 己 Direct Wealth (0.5) |
庚 Seven Killings (1) 壬 Indirect Resource (0.5) 戊 Indirect Wealth (0.3) |
Relevant observation(s) — second chart kept as its own Four Pillars; Day Branch 午.
Element totals — Wood 2.0; Fire 2.8; Earth 3.1; Metal 1.5; Water 1.5.
Weighted Ten-God totals (excluding only the visible Day Master) — Friend 1.0; Eating God 1.5; Hurting Officer 1.3; Indirect Wealth 2.6; Direct Wealth 0.5; Seven Killings 1.0; Direct Officer 0.5; Indirect Resource 1.5.
Chart B, Then a Brief Contrast With Chart A
Chart B is calculated on its own first: 丙寅, 戊戌, 甲午, 壬申. Its visible Day Master is 甲, the stem in the Day column. That Day Master sets the Ten God labels inside this chart, so 丙 is Eating God, 戊 is Indirect Wealth, and 壬 is Indirect Resource. Hidden stems are read in list order with weights of 1.0, 0.5 and 0.3, a convention of this calculator rather than a universal rule. In 戌, for example, the hidden stems are 戊, 辛 and 丁, labelled Indirect Wealth, Direct Officer and Hurting Officer.
The five-element totals for Chart B are wood 2, fire 2.8, earth 3.1, metal 1.5 and water 1.5. These raw totals are not a strength verdict; they simply record what is visible and weighted. The weighted Ten-God totals exclude the visible Day Master, while the five-element totals include it. Chart B’s Day Branch is 午.
Chart A is also kept intact as its own Four Pillars: 乙丑, 辛巳, 甲寅, 壬申. Its Day Master is 甲, and its Day Branch is 寅. Both charts share 甲 as the Day Master and 壬申 in the Hour Pillar, yet each chart keeps its own labels and totals. A branch relation between 寅 and 午 is a lookup label, not a compatibility score. To read more about branch relations, see Six Combinations and Six Clashes.
A repeatable method: calculate each chart separately; preserve each Day Master and Four Pillars; record exact visible and hidden labels; then note branch relations across the comparison. This is an observation procedure, not a verdict.
六 Base-rate boundary
The full enumeration used by this site contains 518,400 valid Four Pillars combinations: 60 year pillars × 12 solar-month slots × 60 day pillars × 12 hour slots. This topic contains several possible labels or thresholds, so a single combined percentage would conceal which exact condition was counted.
Any later frequency must define one exact condition first and report an equal-weight combination-space proportion, not a percentage of people, income outcomes, careers or birth records. The presence of a label is not an event forecast.
