Xin Mao Day Pillar: A Single Hidden Wealth Stem

一 What it is

A Xin Mao Day Pillar is a day pillar whose top stem is Xin Yin Metal and whose bottom branch is Mao Yin Wood, with Mao hiding only Yi, Xin's Indirect Wealth. Think of a small silver key resting inside a wooden drawer: the key is real, but the drawer holds no spare key, no metal tray, and no earth lining that could support it. The only thing inside is a folded note — Yi Wood, Indirect Wealth.

What distinguishes this pillar is that the single hidden stem is wealth, not a root. For Xin, Yi is Indirect Wealth, so the hidden wealth is not the same as Direct Wealth, and it is not a prediction of money or a spouse. It is simply the Ten God relationship produced by Yi inside Mao.

Mao is a pure Wood branch: its main element is Wood and its only hidden stem is Yi Wood. Yi is not a Metal root for Xin. A hidden Metal stem — Geng or Xin — would be a Metal root regardless of whether it carries the Friend or Rob Wealth label. Visible peers are not themselves hidden roots. Earth is Resource, not a root.

At the day position, Xin sits on Mao in the Extinction phase. The day master phase and the own-pillar-stem phase are identical references there. A phase cannot create a root; hidden Metal can. The fixed 1/.5/.3 weights are not seasonal strength scores, and no transformation follows from this pillar alone.

二 Where to find it in your chart

Where to Read the Xin Mao Day Pillar in Your Own Chart

Open the calculator and enter your birth date, then your birth time and birthplace. In the Four Pillars grid, find the Day column: the top character is the Day Master stem, and the bottom character is the day branch. For 辛卯, the top is 辛 and the bottom is 卯. Small hidden-stem characters sit beside or beneath the branch; in 卯 you should see only 乙. The grid does not print hidden Ten God labels or a separate growth-phase row, so read the phase from the article tables or the full overview. Element balance shows weighted totals, not a phase or a strength verdict. If the hour is unknown, treat the hour pillar as unconfirmed. If birth is near a day boundary, use calculate your chart with an accurate birthplace and time rather than assuming a universal rollover rule.

Read the Day column: top character = Day Master; top + bottom characters = day pillar. Keep the full four-column chart for context.

三 How to read it

How to Read This Pillar Step by Step

First fix the layer of the cycle index. Xin Mao is pair 28 of the sixty stem-branch combinations. That index tells you which stem and branch are paired and, because Xin is a yin stem, that its phase sequence runs in reverse. It does not by itself tell you element strength or Ten Gods. Keep this layer separate from interpretation, because mixing the index with meaning is the most common source of confusion. The Mao Rabbit Earthly Branch is the branch half of this pair, and its own content is what you examine next.

Second, identify the stem element and polarity. Xin is yin Metal. Polarity decides which Ten God each other stem becomes. For Xin, Jia is Direct Wealth and Yi is Indirect Wealth; Bing is Direct Officer and Ding is Seven Killings; Wu is Direct Resource and Ji is Indirect Resource; Geng is Rob Wealth and Xin is Friend; Ren is Hurting Officer and Gui is Eating God. Geng and Xin both require hidden Metal for roots, not Earth. Earth is Resource, not a root. Hidden Geng or Xin is a Metal root regardless of whether the label is Friend or Rob Wealth, and visible peers are not themselves hidden roots.

Third, read the hidden stems of the branch. Mao hides Yi only, at weight 1, labeled Indirect Wealth for Xin. Do not confuse a branch's main element with every hidden stem inside it: Mao's main element is Wood, and its only hidden stem is Yi Wood. The calculator uses fixed weights 1, .5 and .3 for the listed hidden-stem positions; these are not seasonal strength scores. Yi is not Direct Wealth for Xin, and hidden wealth is not actual money or a spouse prediction.

Fourth, place the pillar in the complete chart and check phase. The Day Master phase and the own-pillar-stem phase at the day position are identical references, both Extinction here. To see the phase, open the Four Pillars grid: the day column shows the top stem Xin, the bottom branch Mao, and small hidden-stem characters beneath. The grid does not print hidden Ten God labels or a dedicated phase row, so read those from the tables below and the growth-phase reference. A phase cannot create a root; hidden Metal can. Phase labels are not health, lifespan, biological age, pregnancy, personality, career or relationship predictions.

To place this pair within the sexagenary cycle, use the ordered table in the sixty Jia Zi cycle; its number identifies a position, not a rank.

四 When the reading changes

Chart A: Water-Heavy Month with Hidden Geng Roots

Chart A places Ren Shen in the year and Xin Hai in the month, so the seasonal setting leans toward Water. The day stem Xin is supported by visible Xin in the month, but that visible peer is not itself a hidden root. The actual Metal roots sit in the hidden Geng inside Shen and Si. Earth appears as hidden Wu in those same branches, which is Resource, not a root. The day branch Mao hides only Yi Indirect Wealth at weight 1, so the day pillar supplies neither Metal nor Earth. A relationship reading can note that Yi is Indirect Wealth for Xin, not Direct Wealth, and should not treat Mao as a spouse forecast. Career reflection can examine how hidden Geng supports the day master without promising income or promotion. The day phase at Mao is Extinction, and the own-pillar-stem phase is also Extinction; that label is a phase reference, not a health or lifespan prediction.

Chart B: Fire-Heavy Month with Visible Yi Wealth

Chart B changes the year and month to Ren Wu and Yi Si, while the day pillar Xin Mao and hour pillar Gui Si stay the same. The month stem Yi is visible Indirect Wealth, and the day branch Mao still hides Yi at weight 1. Fire is more represented through Wu and the two Si branches, and Water appears through Ren and Gui. The fixed Metal total is lower than in chart A, yet hidden Geng inside both Si branches still counts as a Metal root. Earth appears as hidden Ji in Wu and hidden Wu in Si, which is Resource, not a root. The day phase at Mao remains Extinction, and the own-pillar-stem phase remains Extinction. A relationship reading should stay with the fact that Mao hides only Yi Indirect Wealth, not Direct Wealth. Career reflection can compare the visible Yi month stem with the hidden Yi in Mao, but it should not forecast a financial result.

Season and Context: What Actually Changes Between A and B

The month branch is the clearest seasonal marker in these two charts. Chart A has Hai in the month, a Water-leaning setting where visible Xin and hidden Geng give the day master substantial Metal company. Chart B has Si in the month, a Fire-leaning setting where the visible Yi month stem adds Indirect Wealth and the two Si branches still hide Geng. In both charts, Earth is Resource, whether it appears as hidden Wu or hidden Ji, and it does not become a Metal root. The day branch Mao hides only Yi, so it never supplies hidden Geng or Xin. When comparing A and B, the pillars that actually change are the year and month; the day and hour pillars stay the same. That contrast teaches how season and surrounding stems shift emphasis without changing what Mao contains.

Reflection Limits: Phase Labels and Hidden Wealth

The day phase and own-pillar-stem phase at Mao are both Extinction for Xin. That is a phase label, not a statement about health, biological age, pregnancy, or lifespan. A phase cannot create a root; only hidden Metal can. The hidden Yi in Mao is Indirect Wealth for Xin, and it is not Direct Wealth, so it should not be read as a direct spouse or guaranteed money signal. In chart A, hidden Geng in Shen and Si gives actual Metal roots, while visible Xin in the month is a peer rather than a root. In chart B, hidden Geng in the two Si branches still provides Metal roots, while visible Yi in the month adds Indirect Wealth. For readers learning the phase method, how to use the 12 growth phases explains the labels without turning them into predictions.

Weighted element totals: Wood 1.5, Fire 1, Earth 0.6, Metal 3.5, Water 3.5.

The Xin Mao day pillar places yin Metal Xin above yin Wood Mao. In the Four Pillars grid, Xin is the day stem on top, Mao is the day branch below, and Mao's small hidden-stem characters sit under the branch. Mao hides only Yi, yin Wood. For a Xin Day Master, Yi is Indirect Wealth. That is the single hidden Wealth stem this pillar carries.

Xin at Mao is in the Extinction phase. At the day position, the Day Master's phase and the pillar stem's own phase are the same reference, so both read Extinction here. Phase labels are symbolic stage names, not health, lifespan, biological age, pregnancy, personality, career, or relationship predictions. A phase cannot create a root; only hidden Metal can.

Read chart A by position. Year is Ren Shen, month is Xin Hai, day is Xin Mao, hour is Gui Si. Shen hides Geng, Ren, and Wu; Hai hides Ren and Jia; Si hides Bing, Geng, and Wu. The day pillar itself still hides only Yi. Geng and Xin both require hidden Metal for roots, not Earth. Earth is Resource, not a root. Hidden Geng or Xin is a Metal root regardless of whether its Ten God label is Friend or Rob Wealth. Visible peers are not themselves hidden roots.

Two useful contrasts follow. First, Yi is Indirect Wealth for Xin, not Direct Wealth, so the label does not mean actual money or a spouse prediction. Second, Mao's main Wood element is not the same as every hidden stem inside it; here the only hidden stem is Yi.

Chart B — 壬午 / 乙巳 / 辛卯 / 癸巳

Weighted element totals: Wood 2, Fire 3, Earth 1.1, Metal 2, Water 2.

Chart B places 辛 Xin Yin Metal over 卯 Mao Yin Wood at the Day pillar. Mao hides only 乙 Yi Yin Wood, which is Indirect Wealth for Xin, so this pillar carries a single hidden Wealth stem. There is no hidden Metal root and no Earth Resource inside Mao. Xin at Mao sits in the Extinction phase, a positional reference label rather than a health, lifespan or personality verdict. Yi is Indirect Wealth for Xin, not Direct Wealth, and hidden Wealth is not actual money or a spouse prediction. A phase cannot create a root; only hidden Metal can. Visible peers are not themselves hidden roots.

Chart B's surrounding pillars are Year 壬午, Month 乙巳 and Hour 癸巳. Compared with chart A, the Year and Month pillars change: A has 壬申 and 辛亥, while B has 壬午 and 乙巳. The Day 辛卯 and Hour 癸巳 stay the same. B's 午 hides 丁 Seven Killings and 己 Indirect Resource; its two 巳 branches each hide 丙 Direct Officer, 庚 Rob Wealth and 戊 Direct Resource. Those hidden 庚 characters give Xin Metal roots outside Mao. Chart A has hidden 庚 in both 申 and its hour 巳; chart B has it in the month and hour 巳. B's Month stem 乙 Yi is Indirect Wealth, matching Mao's hidden Yi, while A's Month stem 辛 is Friend.

To check chart B, open the Four Pillars grid and confirm 辛 above 卯 in the Day column. Read the small hidden-stem characters under 卯: only 乙 appears. Then scan every other branch for hidden 庚 or 辛, since Geng and Xin both require hidden Metal for roots, not Earth. Earth is Resource, not a root. Compare the Year and Month pillars with chart A to identify the changes. For a different Day Master on the same branch, see the Yi Mao Day Pillar; its Yi stem changes the Ten God reference. This is a structural check, not a forecast.

六 What the counts mean

The ordered cycle contains 60 distinct pairs. Each stem appears in six of them. A specific day pillar occupies one of those 60 positions. These counts describe the cycle, not a measured population distribution or a probability of any life outcome.
