一 What it is
What “Bazi and Health” Means Here
Think of a weather station that records temperature, rainfall, wind and pressure. It describes conditions; it does not tell you whether to plant tomatoes or see a doctor. A Bazi chart works in a similar descriptive way. It is a four-column record built from the birth year, month, day and hour, and each column has a visible stem and branch. The calculator reads those characters, lists any hidden stems beneath the branches, and counts how the five elements appear across the chart.
That counting step is a visible chart label or lookup match, not a health statement. For example, a chart may show Wood 3, Fire 1.5, Earth 1.9, Metal 2.8 and Water 2, or a different inventory such as Wood 3.8, Fire 2, Earth 2.3, Metal 1 and Water 1.3. These numbers simply record what the characters contain. The same applies to the Month Branch, the bottom character of the Month column: it supplies seasonal context, not a diagnosis. Hidden stems are included using this calculator’s list-order weights of 1.0, 0.5 and 0.3, and raw totals are not a strength verdict.
Understanding Five Elements helps you read that inventory as traditional vocabulary. It cannot prove organ conditions, symptoms, disease, mental health, treatment needs, diet, exercise or prognosis. Bazi is not medical evidence. For any health decision, consult qualified healthcare professionals.
二 Where to find it in your chart
Where to Find the Day Master and Ten-God Labels
Start with the Day column. Its top character is the Day Master, the reference point for every other label. In the example 乙丑 / 辛巳 / 甲寅 / 壬申, the Day Master is Jia Wood. A reader whose Day Master is different will see different Ten-God names throughout the chart.
Next, read the visible stems: the top characters of the Year, Month, Day and Hour columns. Each one carries a visible Ten-God label. In the example, the Year stem Yi is Rob Wealth, the Month stem Xin is Direct Officer, the Day stem Jia is the Day Master itself, and the Hour stem Ren is Indirect Resource.
Then look beneath each branch. The hidden stems listed there also receive Ten-God labels, shown as hidden-god entries. Under Chou, for instance, the calculator lists Ji, Gui and Xin as Direct Wealth, Direct Resource and Direct Officer. These labels follow the same Day Master reference, so they shift when the Day Master changes.
Keep two boundaries in mind. If the birth time is unknown, no Hour Pillar appears, so no Hour stem or Hour hidden stems can be labelled. The Month Pillar branch supplies seasonal context only; it is not a diagnosis or a verdict on balance.
Finally, the visible Day Master counts in the five-element totals, but it is excluded only from the article weighted Ten-God totals. Hidden-stem weights of 1.0, 0.5 and 0.3 are this calculator’s list-order convention, and raw totals are not a strength verdict. To see these positions in your own result, calculate your chart.
| Position | Year | Month | Day | Hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stem | 乙 | 辛 | 甲 | 壬 |
| Branch | 丑 | 巳 | 寅 | 申 |
| Ten God | Rob Wealth | Direct Officer | Day Master | Indirect Resource |
| Hidden | 己, 癸, 辛 | 丙, 庚, 戊 | 甲, 丙, 戊 | 庚, 壬, 戊 |
三 How to read it
How to Read the Five-Element Inventory Step by Step
Begin with the Day Master: the top stem of the Day column. In 乙丑 辛巳 甲寅 壬申, that stem is 甲, so the chart is read from a Wood Day Master. Every other element is then described by its relationship to 甲, which is why the same visible character can carry different Ten Gods labels in another chart.
Next, identify the relevant element relationship for each stem and branch. A visible stem such as 辛 in the Month column is compared with the Day Master and labelled Direct Officer; a hidden stem such as 庚 inside 巳 is compared in the same way and labelled Seven Killings. This step is relational, not predictive: the label describes a position in the chart, not an outcome in a person’s life.
Then separate visible stems from hidden stems. The four top characters form one part of the element inventory. The stems listed beneath each branch are included with this calculator’s weights of 1.0, 0.5 and 0.3, following list order. In 乙丑, the hidden stems 己, 癸 and 辛 receive those weights in that order. The Month Pillar deserves particular attention because its branch supplies seasonal context, while its stem remains part of the visible inventory.
Record positions as you go. Note whether a character is a year, month, day or hour stem; whether it is visible or hidden; and which branch contains it. The Day Master counts in five-element totals but is excluded only from article weighted Ten-God totals. Raw totals are not a strength verdict, and weighted totals are descriptive summaries rather than forecasts. Two charts may share similar totals yet differ because their elements sit in different positions.
Finally, keep the record factual. State the Day Master, the relationship, the visible and hidden layers, and the positions. Do not convert an element total into a health inference, and do not treat any label as medical evidence. For health decisions, consult qualified healthcare professionals.
| Observable label | Members or basis | Bounded reading |
|---|---|---|
| Visible stems | top characters of the four columns | one part of the element inventory |
| Hidden stems | stems listed under each branch | included with calculator weights 1.0, 0.5 and 0.3 |
| Month Branch | bottom character of the Month column | seasonal context, not a diagnosis |
四 When the reading changes
Repeated labels across columns
A label can appear more than once without multiplying its meaning. In the first sample, Direct Officer shows as the visible month stem 辛 and again among the hidden stems of 丑, where 辛 is listed third. The concrete check is to count visible occurrences separately from hidden ones, then note that the calculator’s hidden weights follow list order: 1.0, 0.5 and 0.3. Repetition tells you the label is recorded in more than one place; it does not tell you that an officer-related outcome is stronger, nearer or guaranteed.
Hidden-only versus visible occurrence
Some labels never surface as a top character. In the first sample, Hurting Officer has a weighted total of 0 because 丁 does not appear in any hidden list, while Eating God reaches 1.5 through 丙 in 巳 and 丙 in 寅. The check is to compare the visible-stem column against each branch’s hidden list before reading the weighted totals. A hidden-only label is still part of the inventory, but its presence describes where the label sits in the chart, not what will happen in a life.
Position changes the reading
The same label carries different positional context depending on its column. Direct Officer is the month stem in both samples, yet the month branches differ: 巳 in the first chart and 未 in the second. Because the Month Branch supplies seasonal context rather than a diagnosis, the check is to read the branch beside the stem instead of treating the label alone as decisive. Position tells you which column and which season frame the label; it does not convert an interpretive label into a prediction.
Coexistence with another relation or category
Labels rarely stand alone. In the second sample, the month branch 未 hides Direct Wealth, Hurting Officer and Rob Wealth together, while the visible month stem is Direct Officer. The check is to list every category sharing that branch and note the coexistence before drawing any conclusion. Coexistence means the chart records several labels in one location; it does not mean one label cancels another, and it does not establish a health, career or financial result. Five-Element totals and Ten-God totals remain descriptive counts, and raw totals are not a strength verdict.

Weighted Ten-God totals (excluding only the visible Day Master) — Friend 1.0; Rob Wealth 1.0; Eating God 1.5; Indirect Wealth 0.9; Direct Wealth 1.0; Seven Killings 1.5; Direct Officer 1.3; Indirect Resource 1.5; Direct Resource 0.5.
Chart A: Reading the Four Pillars
Chart A is written as 乙丑 for the Year, 辛巳 for the Month, 甲寅 for the Day, and 壬申 for the Hour. Each column pairs a visible stem with a branch, and together they form the basic inventory this calculator reports.
The visible stems are 乙, 辛, 甲 and 壬. The branches are 丑, 巳, 寅 and 申. The Day stem, 甲, is the Day Master. Its Ten-God label is simply “Day Master,” while the other visible stems carry labels such as Rob Wealth, Direct Officer and Indirect Resource.
Branches also contain hidden stems, listed beneath each branch and counted with this calculator’s weights of 1.0, 0.5 and 0.3 in list order. Under 丑 are 己, 癸 and 辛; under 巳 are 丙, 庚 and 戊; under 寅 are 甲, 丙 and 戊; under 申 are 庚, 壬 and 戊. These hidden stems add further Ten-God labels, including Direct Wealth, Eating God, Seven Killings and Indirect Wealth.
The recorded Five Elements totals are Wood 3, Fire 1.5, Earth 1.9, Metal 2.8 and Water 2. These raw totals are not a strength verdict. The visible Day Master counts in the five-element totals, but it is excluded only from the article’s weighted Ten-God totals.
The Month Branch, 巳, supplies seasonal context for the Month Pillar. It is one traditional reference point, not a diagnosis. Year and Month boundaries use China time; Day and Hour use true solar time. An unknown time would mean no invented Hour Pillar.
Chart A therefore shows a specific set of stems, branches, positions and supplied totals. Bazi is not medical evidence, and readers should use qualified healthcare professionals for health decisions.
| Position | Year | Month | Day | Hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stem | 甲 | 辛 | 甲 | 丙 |
| Branch | 子 | 未 | 辰 | 寅 |
| Ten God | Friend | Direct Officer | Day Master | Eating God |
| Hidden stems | 癸 Direct Resource (1) | 己 Direct Wealth (1) 丁 Hurting Officer (0.5) 乙 Rob Wealth (0.3) |
戊 Indirect Wealth (1) 乙 Rob Wealth (0.5) 癸 Direct Resource (0.3) |
甲 Friend (1) 丙 Eating God (0.5) 戊 Indirect Wealth (0.3) |
Relevant observation(s) — a different element inventory; Month Branch 未.
Element totals — Wood 3.8; Fire 2.0; Earth 2.3; Metal 1.0; Water 1.3.
Weighted Ten-God totals (excluding only the visible Day Master) — Friend 2.0; Rob Wealth 0.8; Eating God 1.5; Hurting Officer 0.5; Indirect Wealth 1.3; Direct Wealth 1.0; Direct Officer 1.0; Direct Resource 1.3.
Reading Chart B
Chart B has the pillars 乙丑, 辛巳, 甲寅 and 壬申. Its visible stems are 乙, 辛, 甲 and 壬, while each branch carries hidden stems: 丑 holds 己, 癸 and 辛; 巳 holds 丙, 庚 and 戊; 寅 holds 甲, 丙 and 戊; 申 holds 庚, 壬 and 戊. The calculator weights these hidden stems 1.0, 0.5 and 0.3 in list order, so the element totals become Wood 3, Fire 1.5, Earth 1.9, Metal 2.8 and Water 2. These raw totals are an inventory, not a strength verdict.
The Month Pillar is 辛巳, placing the chart in the 巳 month. That branch supplies seasonal context only. The Day Master is 甲, shown as the day stem. In the Ten-God totals, the visible Day Master is excluded, while the other visible and hidden stems are counted. The recorded totals include Friend 1, Rob Wealth 1, Eating God 1.5, Indirect Wealth 0.9, Direct Wealth 1, Seven Killings 1.5, Direct Officer 1.3, Indirect Resource 1.5 and Direct Resource 0.5.
Contrast with Chart A
Chart A has different pillars: 甲子, 辛未, 甲辰 and 丙寅. Its element totals are Wood 3.8, Fire 2, Earth 2.3, Metal 1 and Water 1.3, and its Month Branch is 未. Both charts share a 甲 Day Master and a 辛 month stem, yet their inventories differ. Chart B records more Metal and Water; Chart A records more Wood and Earth. Neither comparison implies health, character or fortune.
A Repeatable Observation Method
- List the four visible stems and their branches.
- Add each branch’s hidden stems using the stated weights.
- Record the five-element totals without judging them.
- Note the Month Branch as seasonal context.
- Count Ten-God totals separately, excluding the visible Day Master.
- Compare charts only by these recorded numbers.

六 Base-rate boundary
The full enumeration used by this site contains 518,400 valid Four Pillars combinations: 60 year pillars × 12 solar-month slots × 60 day pillars × 12 hour slots. This topic contains several possible labels or thresholds, so a single combined percentage would conceal which exact condition was counted.
Any later frequency must define one exact condition first and report an equal-weight combination-space proportion, not a percentage of people, income outcomes, careers or birth records. The presence of a label is not an event forecast.
