一 What it is
What “Wealth” Means in a Bazi Chart
Think of a weather map. It shows where pressure systems sit and how they move, but it cannot tell you whether you will enjoy next Saturday. A Bazi chart works similarly: it maps relationships among five elements, not outcomes. For a Jia Wood Day Master, Earth is the Wealth category because Wood controls Earth. Within that category, Wu Earth is Indirect Wealth and Ji Earth is Direct Wealth. These are structural labels, not money itself.
Locating them is a lookup step. In the first example, the hour stem Wu is Indirect Wealth, while Ji hides in the day branch. In the second, the month stem Ji is Direct Wealth, and Wu hides in the day branch. Hidden stems carry weights of 1.0, 0.5 and 0.3 by list order in this calculator. Raw totals are not a strength verdict.
A visible label or lookup match is not an interpretation. Calling something a Wealth star only names its relationship to the Day Master within the wider set of Ten Gods. Interpretation comes later, if at all.
What this cannot prove: income, net worth, investment returns, financial success, career results or events. A Wealth star does not guarantee money, and its absence does not forbid it. The chart describes categories, not certainties.
二 Where to find it in your chart
Where to Find the Day Master and Ten-God Labels
Start with the Day Pillar. Its stem is the Day Master, the reference point for every other label in the chart. In the first example the Day Master is Jia Wood; in the second it is also Jia Wood. A reader with a different Day Master will see different labels, because each label describes a relationship to that stem rather than a fixed trait.
Next, read the visible stems. Each of the four stems carries a Ten God label shown beside it. In the first example, the hour stem Wu Earth is labelled Indirect Wealth, while the month stem Jia is labelled Friend. In the second example, the month stem Ji Earth is labelled Direct Wealth. These visible labels sit on the surface of the chart.
Then look inside each branch. Branches contain hidden stems, and each hidden stem receives its own Ten-God label. In the first example, the day branch Wu hides Ding and Ji, labelled Hurting Officer and Direct Wealth. In the second example, the year branch Chou hides Ji, Gui and Xin, labelled Direct Wealth, Direct Resource and Direct Officer.
If the birth time is unknown, no Hour Pillar appears, so no hour stem or hour hidden stems can be read. The remaining three pillars still provide visible and hidden labels. To see these positions in your own result, calculate your chart.
| Position | Year | Month | Day | Hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stem | 癸 | 甲 | 甲 | 戊 |
| Branch | 亥 | 子 | 午 | 辰 |
| Ten God | Direct Resource | Friend | Day Master | Indirect Wealth |
| Hidden | 壬, 甲 | 癸 | 丁, 己 | 戊, 乙, 癸 |
三 How to read it
How to Observe Wealth Stars Step by Step
Start by establishing the Day Master: the stem of the day pillar. Every other stem and branch is read in relation to it. For a Jia Wood Day Master, the controlling relationship points to Earth, so Earth is the Wealth category. Within that category, Wu Earth is Indirect Wealth and Ji Earth is Direct Wealth, a distinction explained in Direct and Indirect Wealth.
Next, identify the relevant element relationship before naming any Ten-God label. Ask which element the Day Master controls, then check whether each instance is yang or yin. This keeps the label tied to a structural relationship rather than to an assumed outcome.
Then separate visible stems from hidden stems. Visible stems appear on the surface of the chart; hidden stems sit inside branches and are read through their listed order. In the first example, the hour stem Wu is a visible Indirect Wealth instance, while the day branch Wu hides Ji, a Direct Wealth instance. In the second example, the month stem Ji is visible Direct Wealth, while the year branch Chou and day branch Xu each hide Earth stems.
Record positions as you go. Note whether each instance appears in the year, month, day or hour pillar, and whether it is a stem or a hidden stem. Position matters because it shows where an element relationship sits in the chart’s structure.
Weighted totals follow this calculator’s conventions: hidden stems use weights of 1.0, 0.5 and 0.3 in list order. The visible Day Master counts in five-element totals but is excluded only from article weighted Ten-God totals. These numbers are descriptive summaries, not a strength verdict and not a result forecast.
- Establish the Day Master.
- Identify the controlled element.
- Separate visible and hidden stems.
- Record each position.
- Read weighted totals as description only.
A Ten-God label describes a relationship to the Day Master. It is not money itself, and it does not predict income, net worth or financial success.
| Observable label | Members or basis | Bounded reading |
|---|---|---|
| Jia Wood controls | Earth | Wealth category |
| 戊 Wu, Yang Earth | 甲 Day Master | Indirect Wealth |
| 己 Ji, Yin Earth | 甲 Day Master | Direct Wealth |
四 When the reading changes
Repeated Wealth Labels in Different Positions
A chart can show the same Wealth label more than once, and position changes what you are looking at. In the first sample chart, Indirect Wealth appears as the visible hour stem 戊 and again as a hidden stem inside the hour branch 辰. That is one label occurring twice, not two separate incomes. To check this yourself, list every visible stem and hidden stem, then mark each Earth instance for a Jia Wood Day Master. The limited meaning is structural: the Wealth category is represented in two slots. Position matters because a stem sits in the visible layer while a branch hides its stems beneath the surface. Neither placement predicts earnings, and repetition does not multiply outcomes.
Hidden-Only Versus Visible Occurrence
Some Wealth instances never surface as stems. In the first chart, Direct Wealth 己 is hidden inside the day branch 午 and does not appear as a visible stem at all. In the second chart, Direct Wealth 己 is visible as the month stem, while Indirect Wealth 戊 stays hidden inside the day branch 戌. A concrete check is to separate your stem list from your hidden-stem list and count each category independently. Hidden-only occurrence means the label is present in the branch layer; visible occurrence means it also reaches the stem layer. This distinction describes where the label sits, not how much money anyone has. The Five Elements totals follow the same visible-and-hidden split, so Earth can register in the element count even when no Earth stem is displayed.
Positional Differences Between Stems and Branches
Two charts with similar Wealth counts can still differ by position. The second chart places Direct Wealth on the month stem, a prominent visible slot, and Indirect Wealth inside the day branch, a hidden slot. The first chart reverses that emphasis: Indirect Wealth is visible on the hour stem, while Direct Wealth hides in the day branch. To check positional weight, note which pillar holds each instance and whether it is a stem or a hidden stem. Position is a locational fact about the chart layout. It does not rank importance, forecast income, or tell you which Wealth instance matters more in life.
Wealth Coexisting With Other Relations and Ten-God Categories
Wealth labels rarely appear alone. In the second chart, the year branch 丑 hides Direct Wealth 己 alongside Direct Resource 癸 and Direct Officer 辛, while the day branch 戌 hides Indirect Wealth 戊 with Direct Officer 辛 and Hurting Officer 丁. The first chart hides Direct Wealth 己 next to Hurting Officer 丁 in the day branch, and Indirect Wealth 戊 beside Rob Wealth 乙 and Direct Resource 癸 in the hour branch. A practical check is to read each branch's hidden stems as a set rather than isolating one label. Coexistence means several categories share a slot; it does not mean one category overrides another. The visible Day Master counts in five-element totals but is excluded only from weighted Ten-God totals, so raw totals remain a tally, not a strength verdict.

Chart A: Reading Wealth Stars in a Jia Wood Chart
Chart A has the pillars 癸亥 (year), 甲子 (month), 甲午 (day) and 戊辰 (hour). Its Day Master is 甲 Jia Wood, the yang form of Wood. In the Ten-God system, the category a Day Master controls is called Wealth. Because Wood controls Earth, Earth is the Wealth category for Jia Wood. Within that category, 戊 Wu (Yang Earth) is Indirect Wealth, while 己 Ji (Yin Earth) is Direct Wealth. These are relational labels, not money itself.
Start with the visible stems. The year stem 癸 is Direct Resource, the month stem 甲 is Friend, the day stem 甲 is the Day Master, and the hour stem 戊 is Indirect Wealth. So one Wealth stem appears openly: 戊 in the hour position.
Next, check the branches for hidden stems. The year branch 亥 hides 壬 (Indirect Resource) and 甲 (Friend). The month branch 子 hides 癸 (Direct Resource). The day branch 午 hides 丁 (Hurting Officer) and 己 (Direct Wealth). The hour branch 辰 hides 戊 (Indirect Wealth), 乙 (Rob Wealth) and 癸 (Direct Resource).
This gives Chart A two Wealth matches: Direct Wealth 0.5 and Indirect Wealth 2.0. The Direct Wealth instance is hidden in 午, while Indirect Wealth appears both as the visible hour stem 戊 and as a hidden stem in 辰. The five-element totals are Wood 3, Fire 1, Earth 2.5, Metal 0, and Water 3.3. Earth’s 2.5 reflects visible and hidden Earth, including the Day Master’s own element count. Raw totals are not a strength verdict; they simply record what the chart contains.
| Position | Year | Month | Day | Hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stem | 乙 | 己 | 甲 | 甲 |
| Branch | 丑 | 卯 | 戌 | 子 |
| Ten God | Rob Wealth | Direct Wealth | Day Master | Friend |
| Hidden stems | 己 Direct Wealth (1) 癸 Direct Resource (0.5) 辛 Direct Officer (0.3) |
乙 Rob Wealth (1) | 戊 Indirect Wealth (1) 辛 Direct Officer (0.5) 丁 Hurting Officer (0.3) |
癸 Direct Resource (1) |
Relevant observation(s) — Direct Wealth 2.0; Indirect Wealth 1.0.
Element totals — Wood 4.0; Fire 0.3; Earth 3.0; Metal 0.8; Water 1.5.
Weighted Ten-God totals (excluding only the visible Day Master) — Friend 1.0; Rob Wealth 2.0; Hurting Officer 0.3; Indirect Wealth 1.0; Direct Wealth 2.0; Direct Officer 0.8; Direct Resource 1.5.
Reading Chart B: Wealth in Plain Sight
Chart B has the pillars 乙丑, 己卯, 甲戌 and 甲子. Its Day Master is 甲 Jia Wood, so Earth is the Wealth category: Jia Wood controls Earth. Within that category, 戊 Wu Yang Earth is Indirect Wealth and 己 Ji Yin Earth is Direct Wealth. These are relationships to the Day Master, not money itself.
Start with the visible stems. The month stem 己 Ji is Direct Wealth, and the year stem 乙 Yi is Rob Wealth. The day and hour stems are both 甲 Jia, the Day Master and a Friend. Now check the branches for hidden stems. 丑 hides 己, 癸 and 辛: Direct Wealth, Direct Resource and Direct Officer. 卯 hides 乙, Rob Wealth. 戌 hides 戊, 辛 and 丁: Indirect Wealth, Direct Officer and Hurting Officer. 子 hides 癸, Direct Resource.
Using this calculator’s list-order weights of 1.0, 0.5 and 0.3, the weighted Ten-God totals include Direct Wealth 2.0 and Indirect Wealth 1.0. The five-element totals are Wood 4, Fire 0.3, Earth 3, Metal 0.8 and Water 1.5. Raw totals are not a strength verdict; they simply show where categories appear.
Contrast With Chart A
Chart A, 癸亥 甲子 甲午 戊辰, shares the Jia Wood Day Master but places its wealth differently. Its hour stem 戊 Wu is Indirect Wealth, while Direct Wealth appears only hidden in 午. Its weighted totals are Indirect Wealth 2.0 and Direct Wealth 0.5, the reverse emphasis of Chart B. Chart B shows Direct Wealth on a stem and in 丑; Chart A shows Indirect Wealth on a stem and in 辰.
A Repeatable Observation Method
- Identify the Day Master and its controlling element.
- Split that element into Yang and Yin labels: Indirect and Direct Wealth.
- Mark every visible stem and hidden branch instance.
- Apply the stated weights and compare totals without treating them as outcomes.
For background, see Ten Gods, Direct and Indirect Wealth and Five Elements.
六 Base-rate boundary
The full enumeration used by this site contains 518,400 valid Four Pillars combinations: 60 year pillars × 12 solar-month slots × 60 day pillars × 12 hour slots. This topic contains several possible labels or thresholds, so a single combined percentage would conceal which exact condition was counted.
Any later frequency must define one exact condition first and report an equal-weight combination-space proportion, not a percentage of people, income outcomes, careers or birth records. The presence of a label is not an event forecast.
