一What Rob Wealth actually is
Rob Wealth (Jie Cai 劫财) is the ten-god label for a stem that has the same element as your Day Master — the day stem that stands for you — and the opposite polarity. For the underlying framework, see The Ten Gods in Bazi: A Clear Guide to the Five Relationships and Two Polarities.
Di Tian Sui and Zi Ping Zhen Quan treat it as support when the Day Master has thin support and as the main contender for Wealth when the Day Master is strong. The common misreading is to hear the name as a prediction: Rob Wealth means being robbed or losing money. That misreads the star. The name names a reach, not a crime. A stem of your own element reaches for the same Wealth you do; opposite polarity makes that reach aggressive. Four classical configurations follow, and the rest of this article shows how to tell which one is in a chart.
The two questions behind every ten god
The ten gods are categories. Every other stem in a chart — visible or hidden — gets one of those categories after two questions:
- Relation: does it have the same element as the Day Master, does it produce the Day Master, does the Day Master produce it, does the Day Master control it, or does it control the Day Master?
- Polarity: is it the same yin or yang as the Day Master, or opposite?
The relation part uses the Five Element cycles. Production: Wood produces Fire, Fire produces Earth, Earth produces Metal, Metal produces Water, Water produces Wood. Control: Wood controls Earth, Earth controls Water, Water controls Fire, Fire controls Metal, Metal controls Wood.
Polarity is simpler. Yang stems are Jia 甲, Bing 丙, Wu 戊, Geng 庚, Ren 壬. Yin stems are Yi 乙, Ding 丁, Ji 己, Xin 辛, Gui 癸. Opposite polarity means one yang and one yin.
Combine the two questions, and the cells fall out like this.
| Relation to Day Master | Same polarity | Opposite polarity |
|---|---|---|
| Same element | Friend | Rob Wealth |
| I produce | Eating God | Hurting Officer |
| I control | Indirect Wealth | Direct Wealth |
| Controls me | Seven Killings | Direct Officer |
| Produces me | Indirect Resource | Direct Resource |
Why the name says “rob”
Rob Wealth sits in the top-right cell: same element, opposite polarity.
Take Wood. A Wood Day Master controls Earth, so Earth is its Wealth in the I-control row. The Rob Wealth stem for Wood is the other Wood stem. It controls that same Earth. Both stems reach for the same thing. Because the Rob Wealth stem has opposite polarity, the reach is more aggressive than the Friend in the same-polarity cell. The name registers that grab, not a crime.
The Rob Wealth stem for each Day Master
Because each element has one yang stem and one yin stem, the Rob Wealth stem for any Day Master is the other stem of that same element. The full mapping:
| Day Master | Rob Wealth stem |
|---|---|
| Jia 甲 | Yi 乙 |
| Yi 乙 | Jia 甲 |
| Bing 丙 | Ding 丁 |
| Ding 丁 | Bing 丙 |
| Wu 戊 | Ji 己 |
| Ji 己 | Wu 戊 |
| Geng 庚 | Xin 辛 |
| Xin 辛 | Geng 庚 |
| Ren 壬 | Gui 癸 |
| Gui 癸 | Ren 壬 |
Where Rob Wealth can sit
Now that you know which stem to look for, the next question is where it sits in the chart. The four visible stems in a chart are year, month, day, and hour. The day stem is the Day Master, so a visible Rob Wealth can appear in the year stem, the month stem, or the hour stem.
Rob Wealth can also be hidden inside an earthly branch. Each branch holds one to three hidden stems, ranked by intensity as main qi, middle qi, and residual qi. A hidden Rob Wealth can therefore be present without appearing among the visible stems. The month branch’s main qi is the strongest position in the chart. The rest of this article uses a simple weight convention: visible stem 1.0, hidden main qi 1.0, hidden middle qi 0.5, hidden residual qi 0.3.
The four configurations are:
- Rob Wealth supporting a weak Day Master
- Rob Wealth seizing Wealth on a strong Day Master
- Rob Wealth controlled by Direct Officer, the opposite-polarity controls-me ten god
- Rob Wealth drained into Output, meaning Eating God and Hurting Officer
If no Rob Wealth stem appears — not visible, not hidden — the theme is absent. That is not a fifth configuration.
Which of the four applies depends on Day Master strength. This article does not decide that strength for you; the free calculator shows it. Your lookup task is the stem table and the seating check.
二The four kinds of Rob Wealth charts
The same star behaves in four different ways depending on what stands next to it.
A Rob Wealth stem is read through its neighbours. Its definition stays the same — same element as the Day Master, opposite polarity — but its role changes when Wealth, Direct Officer, or Output is nearby. The classical names for those roles are the four configurations below. The free calculator on this site gives weighted totals for the four groups, and it shows how much support the Day Master has. This article does not decide whether any particular Day Master is strong or weak; that weight is the starting point for applying the four patterns.
1. Rob Wealth supporting a weak Day Master
The Day Master has thin support, and a Rob Wealth stem adds same-element weight. Thin support means the support group is light. Under that condition, Rob Wealth functions the way Friend does — it helps carry the Day Master — except Rob Wealth has opposite polarity, which makes it bolder and quicker than Friend.
In conduct, this tends to show as help that arrives fast. When a close person is short on money or a shared task falls apart, this kind of Rob Wealth tends to step in before the consequences are fully checked. The asset side is courage and speed: the person is willing to act, commit, and spend on behalf of others when it matters.
The liability side is the same speed pointed at money. A person with this pattern tends to lend, sponsor, or give before checking what the cost will do to their own position. It is support without a built-in pause, and that is where the impulsive side of Rob Wealth shows up.
2. Rob Wealth seizing Wealth on a strong Day Master
Here the Day Master is already well supported, so a Rob Wealth stem is surplus rather than needed help. When Rob Wealth stands beside Wealth — the things the Day Master controls — two claimants are reaching for the same resource: the Day Master and a same-element rival. The rival is not a thief. It is a second version of you, with the same element but the opposite polarity, and it grabs sooner and harder than you do.
Classical texts warn about this pattern because the resource tends to be shared, spent, or given away before it can be kept. In a concrete situation, a pay rise, an inheritance, or a business payment arrives, and this chart tends to treat it as common property. When the contested thing is a partner, the same shape shows as a rival of your own kind pressing for the same attention.
The asset side of the configuration is generosity and openness with money. People close to this chart tend to receive help with no strings attached. The liability side is the warning: spending and giving away outrun keeping. The same boldness that makes the person generous also makes saving unnatural.
3. Rob Wealth controlled by Direct Officer
Direct Officer is one of the two control gods: it controls the Day Master and has opposite polarity. Because Rob Wealth shares the Day Master’s element, the same Direct Officer also controls Rob Wealth. When a Direct Officer is strong enough to restrain Rob Wealth, the grabbing impulse is put under a rule.
This is the configuration classical texts rate as the best-behaved form of Rob Wealth. The competition does not disappear. It turns procedural. When two people want the same account, the same promotion, or the same resource, this chart tends to compete by applying, negotiating, or following an accepted channel rather than by undercutting. The asset side is restraint that looks like fairness: the person can be forceful without breaking the frame around the contest.
The liability side is delay. Because action must pass through a rule, a moment that requires immediate grab is not a natural moment for this chart. By the time permission is granted or the proper route is found, the opportunity can already be closed. The Rob Wealth impulse is governed, not removed.
4. Rob Wealth drained into Output
Output means Eating God and Hurting Officer — the two gods that the Day Master produces. When an Output god sits with Rob Wealth, the surplus energy of Rob Wealth flows down the production cycle into that Output. Instead of contesting Wealth, it is consumed by making things.
In behaviour, this tends to show as work that becomes an end in itself. Extra energy goes into producing something: a written piece, a repair, a plan, a craft, a thing built with care. The asset side is productivity. Because the energy leaves through making, the rivalry that defines Rob Wealth is less likely to turn into money conflict.
The liability side is that output is not the same as wealth. A person with this pattern tends to keep making after the point where retaining, pricing, or protecting the result would matter. The work is real, but the Rob Wealth habit of giving can show up as giving away time, skill, and finished output rather than money.

A chart with no Rob Wealth at all is not a configuration. The theme is absent, and other gods carry the chart.

It takes four steps to work out which Rob Wealth shape a chart has, and the free calculator does the counting for you. The method is easier to compare with Friend (比肩) in Bazi: what it is, the four kinds, and which one is in your chart.
Rob Wealth is a positional label, not a verdict. A chart shows one of the four configurations when the Rob Wealth stem appears in a particular place and certain other ten gods stand beside it. You do the identifying; the calculator does the arithmetic. The steps below show what to look for, and the three charts that follow show the check being run.
1. Find your Day Master.
The Day Master is the heavenly stem on top of the day pillar. A four-pillar chart is arranged as year, month, day, hour, with a stem above a branch in each column. The stem above the day column is the Day Master. In all three example charts below it is Jia.
2. Read off your Rob Wealth stem from the pairing.
Rob Wealth is the same element as the Day Master with the opposite polarity. Each Day Master therefore has exactly one Rob Wealth stem:
| Your Day Master | Your Rob Wealth stem |
|---|---|
| Jia | Yi |
| Yi | Jia |
| Bing | Ding |
| Ding | Bing |
| Wu | Ji |
| Ji | Wu |
| Geng | Xin |
| Xin | Geng |
| Ren | Gui |
| Gui | Ren |
Since all three example charts have a Jia Day Master, the stem to search for in each is Yi.
3. Count where that stem sits.
Rob Wealth can occupy any of the three visible stems that are not the Day Master: the year stem, month stem, or hour stem. It can also hide inside an earthly branch. Each branch holds one to three hidden stems: a main qi, sometimes a middle qi, and sometimes a residual qi.
Weight them the way the free calculator does:
- visible stem: 1.0
- hidden main qi: 1.0
- hidden middle qi: 0.5
- hidden residual qi: 0.3
Check the month branch first, because the month branch's main qi is the strongest position in the chart.
4. Match what you find against the four configurations.
The four names are fixed. Use the calculator's report of Day Master strength as the starting point, then compare:
- Rob Wealth supporting a weak Day Master applies when the Day Master has thin support and Rob Wealth adds same-element weight to carry it.
- Rob Wealth seizing Wealth on a strong Day Master applies when the Day Master is already well supported, Rob Wealth stands in the open beside Wealth, and nothing restrains it.
- Rob Wealth controlled by Direct Officer applies when a Direct Officer is present and strong enough to restrain the Rob Wealth.
- Rob Wealth drained into Output applies when an Eating God or Hurting Officer is present and the Day Master element flows into that Output instead of contesting Wealth.
If no Rob Wealth appears anywhere, none of the four configurations applies. The theme is absent.
Chart A — Heavy Rob Wealth, Jia Wood Day Master
Chart A's feature is Rob Wealth at full weight, 3.0, standing in the open against Direct Wealth at the same 3.0.
The Rob Wealth total comes from three places: Yi in the year stem, Yi in the hour stem, and Yi as the main qi of Mao in the month branch. Each counts 1.0, giving 3.0. Direct Wealth also totals 3.0. Direct Resource totals 2.0, and the Day Master is supported by that Resource plus the Rob Wealth itself. There is no Output to drain the surplus, and the only Control is a hidden Direct Officer at 0.6, far below the Rob Wealth it would need to restrain.
With Rob Wealth in the open beside Wealth and nothing restraining it, this is the shape of configuration 2: Rob Wealth seizing Wealth on a strong Day Master.
Chart B — Moderate Rob Wealth, Jia Wood Day Master
Chart B's feature is a moderate Rob Wealth, 1.3, with a Direct Officer of the same weight standing over it.
Rob Wealth totals 1.3: Yi in the hour stem counts 1.0, and a residual Yi inside the Wei branch counts 0.3. Nothing else adds to it. Direct Officer totals 1.3 as well: Xin appears visibly in the month stem, and a residual Xin sits inside the Chou branch. The month stem position gives the Direct Officer an open place in the chart, and its weight matches the Rob Wealth exactly. Direct Wealth is present at 2.0, and the Day Master is supported by Direct Resource 2.5 and Friend 1.0.
With Direct Officer at matching weight over the Rob Wealth, this is the shape of configuration 3: Rob Wealth controlled by Direct Officer.
Chart C — No Rob Wealth, Jia Wood Day Master
Chart C's feature is the absence of Rob Wealth: no Yi appears anywhere, visible or hidden.
No Yi shows in the year, month, or hour stems, and none hides inside any of the four branches. The Rob Wealth total is 0. The same-element job falls to Friend instead, which totals 2.0. The chart's surplus flows into a strong Eating God at 2.5. This resembles the drain of configuration 4 — surplus energy moving into Output — but it is Friend doing the draining, not Rob Wealth. Rob Wealth is simply absent. A chart with no Rob Wealth has none of the four configurations; other ten gods carry the chart.
Read side by side, the three charts make the distinction clear. Chart A leaves Rob Wealth at full volume with no restraint. Chart B gives Rob Wealth a Direct Officer of equal weight. Chart C has no Rob Wealth at all and lets Friend carry the same-element role into Output.
These three charts are structural illustrations, not anyone's fate. Run your own chart through the four steps and let the answer stop at the shape — which configuration, or none — rather than at a verdict.
四What to do once you know
The star does not change; what stands next to it does.
Rob Wealth names one relationship: the same element as the Day Master, opposite polarity. What changes is the company it keeps. In one chart it carries a thinly supported Day Master. In another it contests Wealth. In a third, a Direct Officer places it under a rule. In a fourth, an Output drains it into making things. The steps above locate the stem, and the free calculator shows the Day Master's support totals; this article does not decide your strength for you. Once you know which configuration is in front of you, the moves below follow from that configuration. This point connects directly with Eating God (食神) in Bazi: what it is, the four kinds, and which one is in your chart.
1. Rob Wealth supporting a weak Day Master
When the Day Master has thin support, Rob Wealth adds weight of the same element. Like Friend, it carries the load, but it acts faster and bolder. This shape rewards quick, generous action and punishes the same action without a boundary.
- Move first, and state the boundary in the same breath. A loan gets a sum and a return date. Help with a task gets a time limit. The boundary keeps a fast-helping temperament from emptying the helper.
- Choose work where deciding on the spot is part of the job: urgent operations, live events, early teams. Work that stores resources in silence for months tends to frustrate this shape.
- Refill the reserve after a large act of help or spending, before the next appeal arrives.
2. Rob Wealth seizing Wealth on a strong Day Master
When the Day Master is well supported, Rob Wealth stands in the open beside Wealth, and no Direct Officer or Output takes charge of it, the classical warning applies: money, resources, or a partner is contested, and giving outruns keeping. The task is to slow the outflow with structure, not willpower.
- Build the pause into the process. Move a fixed share of income away from the spending account immediately, and require a second signature or a waiting period above a limit set in advance. The impulse is faster than reflection; the delay has to be automatic.
- Define shared money before the sharing. With a partner, sibling, or close colleague, write down who contributed what, what counts as a loan, and how repayment works. The rival in this shape is someone of your own kind who holds the same wealth you do, and unstated expectations tend to become contested ones.
- Keep risk-taking in a bounded fund. Money assigned to a venture can carry risk; money meant to stay still should sit where the bold reach cannot touch it.
3. Rob Wealth controlled by Direct Officer
When a Direct Officer of sufficient weight stands over Rob Wealth, classical texts rate this the best-behaved shape. The impulse does not vanish; it operates under a rule. The shape rewards boldness inside a defined mandate.
- Work inside structures that hold you accountable: a regulated profession, a clear job description, a manager whose approval matters. The rule turns a grabbing impulse into speed that answers for itself.
- When the rule chafes, ask for a wider mandate rather than bypassing the one you have. Renegotiation tends to suit this shape; quiet evasion tends to release the impulse from under the rule.
4. Rob Wealth drained into Output
When an Eating God or Hurting Officer is present, the Day Master produces Output, and the surplus energy of Rob Wealth flows into making things instead of contesting Wealth. This shape needs finished work.
- Keep a regular, visible practice — writing, craft, code, food, teaching, repair — that ends with a finished thing.
- Choose work with a result you can show. Work that only accumulates without producing tends to leave the surplus with no channel.
Common misreadings
- "Rob Wealth means being robbed or losing money." Not as a reading. The name describes the relation between two stems: same element, opposite polarity. In the contesting shape, it describes a tendency to spend and give faster than you keep. In the other shapes it supports a weak Day Master, answers to an officer, or feeds Output. A structural label is not a forecast.
- "Rob Wealth is the bad star; Friend is the good one." They are the same element split by polarity. Classical sources treat Rob Wealth as helpful to a weak Day Master and as well-behaved under a Direct Officer. Good and bad live in the configuration, not in the title.
- "If Rob Wealth is absent, the money theme is absent." Not by itself. A chart without Rob Wealth is not one of the four configurations, and other gods carry the chart. One missing star makes no promise on its own.
Where this stops
Rob Wealth is one god among ten in one structure. No single god sets the Day Master's strength, and no single god sets the direction of a life. The weight of support, Wealth, officer, and Output together tells you which configuration is present, and the calculator supplies that weight. A configuration describes a repeated leaning in conduct — fast help, swift spending, accountable boldness, productive output. It is not a verdict on what happens to you. The use of the pattern is to know the leaning, then decide what structure to meet it with.
